Dell UltraSharp 49 Curved Monitor – U4919DW

Posted on June 9, 2021April 14, 2026

Personally speaking, I feel the 49” monitors with 5120 x 1440 resolution are the best monitors, and I need no extra screens. I think when people have three or more monitors, it is so 90s. One ultrawide monitor is the right way to go, and one monitor doesn’t take so much power.

I like the monitor. It has increased my performance and displays everything I need to have on my screen, whether I’m working on Adobe Premiere Pro, using the browser, or playing with my home lab. It’s a blessing to work with this monitor.

Yes, this monitor is like two 27” monitors, but it feels more like three 27” monitors. Not all GPUs or cables can support 5120 x 1440. Before buying this monitor, be sure your computer can run it.

Problems I’ve had with this monitor:

  • The only negative things involve my HDMI. I’m not able to get a resolution of 5120 x 1440. I have even tested expansive HDMI cables that support 8K resolution and still get the same results.
  • I’ve had an issue when the picture is going blinks quickly to black and then back again. It was so annoying.
  • Recently I’ve had a flickering and ghosting problem with this monitor.
  • And the worst-case issue was picture burn-in. Even though I had nothing plugged into my monitor and only the monitor was turned on, I saw my Apple computer screen and windows open during that time. With lengthy troubleshooting, I solved the problem by reinstalling the firmware. It’s fine now, and I have requested a replacement monitor from Dell, but I’m sure the replacement will have the same problem. So, I decided to cancel the replacement, and I’m still using it. I don’t do firmware upgrades anymore because it could brick the monitor.
  • Over USB-C charging, my laptop wasn’t working, but it got fixed with a firmware upgrade.
  • On the Mac, the monitor sometimes wakes up, looking for a signal.
  • I don’t understand why this monitor has two HDMI inputs. Why not two DisplayPorts instead? And personally, I’m not too fond of HDMI because I’m always having some sort of problem with HDMI. Also, HDMI doesn’t support the non-standard aspect ratio.
